Active Kids Summer Camp

A fantastic opportunity for a healthy, adventurous week this summer!

The 1000 Islands Kayaking Company is pleased to announce our Active Kids Kayaking program for the 2010 paddling season! Brockville’s beautiful St. Lawrence Park will set the staging area for our week long Discovery Program (ages 8 – 11) and our week long Adventure Program (ages 12 – 15) will be held in Brockville at St. Lawrence Park and in Gananoque at our 110 Kate St. location.

Youth have a fantastic opportunity for a healthy, adventurous week this summer, all under the watchful eye of our nationally certified instructors. Through experiential learning about water safety, boat control and local ecological issues, youth will paddle away with self-confidence and a positive affinity for future outdoor recreation. We look forward to getting out on the river!

Discovery Program (Ages 8-11)

The Discovery Program is all about engaging children with the outdoors in a fun and positive way. We play in the kayaks learning experientially about boat control, self and partner rescues, and necessary safety. As a bonus, we paddle close to some amazing wildlife for ecology lessons The 1000 Islands and Rideau Canal offer many opportunities for hiking, swimming and active exploration. Each day is a new discovery.

Adventure Kayak Program (Ages 12-15)

The Adventure Kayak program is designed to facilitate independence and good judgement within the sport of kayaking. Students will have the opportunity to explore several kayaking routes in our area and practice leadership skills in trip planning, navigation and risk assessment. No experience is necessary as we develop skills that can be transferred beyond the sport of kayaking and used in building an active lifestyle that leads to greater accomplishments in many areas of life! Start making critical decisions about safety and develop a deeper appreciation for the beautiful ecology within the 1000 Islands!
